Introducing Stash Books

Do you remember my Dr. Seuss post back in October of last year when I said that I was working on some exciting new projects that I couldn’t tell you about until the spring?

Well, spring has almost officially sprung and everyone at C&T Publishing is excited to introduce Stash Books, our new line of how-to books celebrating fabric arts for a handmade lifestyle. If you’re craving beautiful authenticity in a time of mass-production…Stash Books is for you.

Stash BooksOfficially, Stash Books is an imprint of C&T Publishing. What is an imprint, you say? I’ll try not to be too much of a publishing geek when I say…in book publishing, it is a way for a company to respond to the needs of a new or growing group of readers.

This imprint concept is very common in publishing but more easily understood in the automobile industry. For example, Toyota has their main Toyota cars but in recent years has launched Lexus and Scion to accommodate a variety of aesthetics. Similarly, Stash Books is a line of books that complements the C&T list by providing content that accommodates the craft sewer.

Over many months, C&T has been carefully listening and studying ways to connect with this emerging generation of craft sewers who are actively seeking out unique and innovative fabric-based projects while still looking for style, inspiration, value, and accuracy.

With Stash Books, C&T is taking a major proactive step to reach out and connect with them. Stash Books will inspire you with contemporary designs, clear and simple instructions, and engaging photography. The first four books in the imprint available this spring are:

Me & My Sewing Machine Little Birds
City Quilts Socks Appeal

Me and My Sewing Machine, Little Birds, City Quilts and Socks Appeal.

Within the coming months, Stash Books will release an additional six titles supported by national advertising campaigns, blog tours, as well as this dedicated community-focused website. In 2011, Stash Books will introduce 12 more titles to address the needs of this important new customer.

As a leader in the quilting and fabric arts industry, C&T Publishing is perfectly situated to apply the quality, accuracy and value that is the core of our business philosophy to Stash Books.

Welcome to the era of confident sewing. Welcome to Stash Books.

As editor of three of these new titles, I have to say that I’m thrilled beyond words (I know–strange for an editor to be “beyond words”!). I so enjoyed working with authors Brenna Maloney (Socks Appeal) and Cherri House (CIty Quilts), and working with the team on Little Birds, which has to be the cutest, most appealing collection of bird projects ever! All of the Stash authors are so talented and have so much to offer—they and their books are truly each one of a kind. I know everyone is going to want these books! (And, I can tell you that we’re hard at work on more. . . )

Can I have that hamster on the cover of Socks Appeal?! (Guess I’ll have to make one!)

I am looking forward to more of your little books. I have so many projects going right now that I will not tempt myself with another one. If I do I will never finish what I am working on right now. I have two beautiful pieces of material that my youngest gave me Christmas a year ago. I am to make a top of some kind and a bottom. One piece is pink and the other is a beautiful blue, both have dragons on them. I need to get them made up. I don’t think I can put them in a quilt so it is back to making clothes again. So please don’t tempt me for a few more months.

Brilliant! Love the imprint name. Love the concept. Think the new titles look like a great way to launch Stash Books. While the whole imprint has a young feel, I want you to know it appeals to those of us young-at-heart and our old (and very large) stashes look forward to seeing what else you come up with. I’ve been a big fan of Cherri House’s quilt designs and have to say that the cover shot for her book is GREAT! It’s so hard to come up with a new way to shoot cover quilts, but you did it! Congratulations on adding something new to the industry.
