I am thrilled to announce our wonderful giveaway for our Lunch Bags! book. Our fabulous friends at Free Spirit/Westminster Fibers have sent us some of their amazing cotton laminates to give away. These cotton laminates are food safe and wipeable, so they are perfect for making the sandwich wraps, snack bags and lunch bags in our book.
We will give five lucky winners a fabric bundle containing one 1 yard cut, and three ½ yard cuts of cotton laminates from the fabric lines of Amy Butler, Heather Bailey, Anna Maria Horner, and Kaffe Fassett. This is enough fabric to line one lunch bag and three sandwich wraps or snack bags.
If you haven’t felt these laminates yet, I will tell you that the hand on them is so light. Check out this wonderful blog post from the talented and charming Kathy Mack of Pink Chalk Studio that discusses how to sew with laminates. They are nothing like the stiffer oilcloth you may have encountered as tablecloths at ethnic restaurants. And did I mention that these laminated cottons are food safe? That means that they are BPA free. Instead, these cottons are laminated with a wipe-clean, food safe vinyl and who can resist these yummy patterns?
To be in the running for the Lunch Bags! giveaway, leave a comment at the end of this post telling us a bit about your current or recently completed sewing project. Comments will be closed at 9am PST on Monday, July 12th, 2010 and the five winners will be announced later that day.
Extra comment entries are available to you if you want to maximize your chances at being the giveaway winner! If you take one or more of the actions listed below, enter an extra comment for each, and in that comment tell us what you did and link to the proof where that’s possible.

What a darling project and delicious fabrics…
Hope I win this one!!
Love the idea of the lunch bags. I teach at a couple of LQSs and at each I have a “Bag Lady Club” where we make a different bag each month. Sounds like a book I need to have. Currently I am working on class samples for the 4th quarter of 2010 and, as always having a good time.
Thanks,

Just completed 3 beachbags and a king size quilt–just because I could’nt resist the fabric. Onward to a guild challange
wonderful fabrics and the lunch bags book looks really interesting. I also think these fabrics would be perfect for outdoor pillows. Really a nice way to brighten up outside gardens. My current projects are working on a logcabin in red/white/blue for my son while trying to start a wool crazy wall quilt.
I would definitely try making a basic bag/purse pattern using this laminate fabric…I live in the Northwest and waterproof is a definite plus for bags! Since I’m not into the latest HUGE totes I keep seeing patterns for, I’d bet there is a lunch bag or two in there that could easily pass for a purse.
Thanks for a great giveaway!

Lately, I have finished a baby quilt, made a purse, made a coin bag, made a naptime mat, made a frog and I’m quilting a queen sized quilt in my sewing machine when I don’t have another project going.
I am in the midst of several sewing projects: 1) sewing a pencil skirt for the second time 2) finishing up an Ocean Waves type quilt that has over 1200 pieces (the most complex quilt I’ve ever made!) 3) sewing a blouse with buttons for the first time. My usual vinyl lunch box has disappeared into thin air. I can’t find it anywhere for the last two months so a fabric lunch bag may be the perfect solution!
Compleated two “college quilts” for my great grandsons heading off from home. I also made hot pads from leftover blocks to give away at my family reunion. They were well appreciated.
I love all your books and projects. The only things is finding time to do it all. I would love to win this prize and make some great lunch bags. Thanks so much for this offering.
What a cracking idea! It never occured to me to make natty bags especially for lunches…by the cover example though, they might look really smart as a genuine, hand bag!
I just finished a wall hanging called Carnival Star designed by Susan Cleveland. I made it with Cherrywood fabrics, and I’m very happy with it. I would love to make a lunchbag with the laminated fabrics. All the designers of the fabrics have fabrics that I drool over.

Currently I am working on a BOM that is a UFO in progress, I am cutting out a muslin of a wrap skirt to learn garment sewing. With my scrap strips I am having so much fun cutting them into thin strips and hand sewing them into swirls to be used as flowers for embellishment or for buttons. I’ve crocheted a summer pool shawl and might use my scrappy white flowers on it.

I have fallen in love with sewing! I used to sew years when I was younger and then life got in the way and now here I am in my prime (40ish) and love it. Mainly accessories. So to find this collection is great because on top of that I am an information freak too.

Well since my Mom is visiting and I hate hand sewing and she loves it I decided to bust out the Happy Stacker pattern by Heather Bailey and let my Mom hand sew. It is so cute and since I have no kids I was sewing it as a gift but since I have seen how darn cute it is I don’t think I will be able to part with it and it might become a fixture in my sewing room!!!!

My latest project was fabric apples and pears, too cute. My next, hopefully very soon, project will be Amy Butlers new raincoat pattern. We just have to decide on the fabric to use. Thanks so much for your giveaway.
I love to make dish rags for my self and to give away. They are easy to make and have many uses besides using them on dishes. I can make them various sizes also so if I need a rag to clean up small spills it is there, throw in the washing machine and can be used again and again.
I’ve just finished putting together a mini quilt from blocks I received in a swap, and am gearing up for the next round of swaps. I recently went back to work, so winning a book and making a new lunch bag would be fabulous!

Just finished the Monique Dress by Serendipity Studios in Poodle by Jennifer Paganelli. I’m currently working on a downsized version of the City Harbour quilt from the book City Quilts by Cherri House. I have been wanting to make something with the new laminates for quite some time. My college aged daughter could use a lunch bag. These fabrics and book would be perfect for that!
Most recent completed project … short list on the completed ones! But did just finish quilting a top yesteday, and last month finished 3 for Q4K’s. Ongoing … a dozen or so, and am cutting for yet another today!
Love these laminates, and the designers are some of my faves … pick ME!
I live in a small town and the quilters in our town are all very involved in our local shop. On Mother’s Day one of our town’s most prolific, talented, generous quilter’s suddenly passed away. We all called her Mema and she was the reason a lot of learned to quilt. She taught me…she even taught the owner of the shop. She was an amazing hand applique artist. My most recent project was binding an incredible baby quilt she didn’t finish before she died.
One of her favorite things I made for her was a small round , quilted, zippered pouch she carried in her purse. It held her favorite sweetener for her iced tea. I love making useful items from stash. I’d like to try using the laminated fabric tool
Thanks
I have recently finished a men’s dress shirt, great sense of accomplishment.
I LOVE the new Lunch Bag book! The laminates would be perfect!
I just finished up a little hexi dot & gnome pillow – very cute!
i am sewing a lined jacket for myself out of thrifted material
My most recent project is a baby quilt, simple yellow brick road pattern in modern colors – orange, grey, blue. I am sewing the binding on and hope to be finished soon!
I always have a lot of projects going on. One is a Re-Vision quilt project, where several members of my quilting group exchanged unfinished quilts in brown paper bags. We are to finish them any way we want, such as totes, jackets, painted or embellished wall quilts…can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with.
Ooohhh, current projects? Today I am working on a pincushion for a give-away/swap, yesterday I started 2 new block of the month quilts. I have a lot stacked up, just waiting for me.
Hello, my current project is a two-tone fabric tote that took me all of yesterday to construct, but only halfway. I’m in a quandry b/c I just can’t figure out how my sides should attach to the exterior body, but I’m hopeful. I love sewing and love challenges so this too will be accomplished. I am not a newbie, nor do I have 20 years of experience under my belt, but fall somewhere in the middle, so I’m always in the learning phase. Would love to know what laminate cotton feels like and the wonderful things to make with it.
I love this site, just decovered it. The giveaway is fun and I’d love to start my way to taking a great lunch bag to work. thanks for the great information. Off to join the newsletter too.
Just joined the newletter…not sure how to prove it? but hope this gets me an extra entry in the contest. Looking forward to getting the enewletter

What an interesting product. The first thought I had was grocery store tote bags. I’m on the Raleigh NC Quilt Symposium committee for 2011. Part of my reponsibility is gifts for the teachers. The ideas are perking.
At this year’s symposium in charlotte NC I took a design class w/Cynthia Corbin. That’s what I’ve been working on since. Two quilts finished and one to go. I loved her class.
this book looks amazing!
oops hit enter too soon. I’ve been making bags for myself as if they’re going out of style and finished a few quilt bee blocks
I just made a bag to attach to a walker out of the laminated cotton. It was a 90th birthday gift for my Aunt, she loved the pretty pastel flowers and butterflies on the fabric. I’d love to win some of this fabric to explore what else I can fabricate.
I am currently working on a 3D art quilt.
Oh how I love bags! Right now I’m working on a lap quilt out of a pattern I saw online.
I am working on a quilt for my son as we will be moving later this month. He has had the same dinosaur quilt for almost 10 years. He does still sleep with it every night, but I thought a new room needs a new quilt
My latest sewing has been a blitz of quilt tops, a feat made possible by a summer break from teaching. I just finished a lovely one-patch quilt–a coverlet, really–for my bedroom. It was one of those projects that I started collecting fabrics for abour three years ago, but just now finished up. I hope to tackle a few more projects before summer ends, and I think a lunch bag would be great one (so I can carry my lunch to school in style!).
I hadn’t realized you had such a selection of badges for blogs. I put up the “Celebrate Handmade” badge–very cute–on my blog at http://occasionalpiece.wordpress.com. Thanks for the nudge to do this.
I’ve been a subscriber to your newsletters for some time–and enjoy getting them.
I blogged about this giveaway here (http://occasionalpiece.wordpress.com/2010/07/07/lunch-bag-fabric-giveaway) but the post is not only about the giveway, but also about C & T (the parent company of Stash Books) as well.
BTW, if I had to chose a bundle that I’d like to win, it would have to be the Kaffe Fassett group in the middle back of the display. I already have the Amy Butler fabric–love it!
I recently finished a quilt I started for my grandson when he was born (6 years ago). I put it away and didn’t come back to it until a couple weeks ago. I finished it along with making bumper pads, crib skirt, diaper stacker, blanket and 3 pillows for my daughter who is expecting her third boy! Feels good to have them all completed. Now to make a quilt for her oldest son and then a quilt for our grandson on the way.

I just signed up for your newsletter. I’m very excited about the laminated fabrics which will go beautifully into my Green Ideas for the Studio workshop and lecture. I’ve been hoping to find a book that talks about these fabrics, especially for lunch bags and reusable sandwich covers. Thank you!
Love the thought of working with the new laminates!
I just finished a memory quilt for a gentlemen who lost his wife to cancer earlier this year. He was very sentimental about it, and while I had never done one of these before, I just couldn’t say no to him.
I’m signed up for the newsletter, have a blog badge, and would love to win a fabric bundle. They are gorgeous!!
Thanks!
I always enjoy your newsletters and free projects. I love quilting and make bags, any sort of bag. You cannot compare anything with the satisfaction of making something with beautiful fabric. The feel of the fabric between your fingers and the mixing of different colours is just something you cannot describe.
I love these bags!!! would love to win!!!!
I have been working on my son’s well loved baby blankie–he is 10 and I still need to make sure he is not using it so I can snag it and repair. It is a comfort to him. Also working on several baby quilts and a pattern and an art quilt–of course all of these are multiples…always have lots of projects going at the same time.
I am currently reinventing my entire life around my BIG DREAM of having a design business that produces individuated fashion and lifestyle textiles in harmony to the planet and all living things. Even though everything is in an infantile stage, I am moving forward by making some clothing for myself from recycled materials. My favorite piece under construction is a skirt I’m making from a pair of paisley pants. I believe in recycling everything.
I love these bags. They would be perfect to take my lunch to work. I am working on a tee for me with the saying Gma’s Taxi the best job in town on it and a car the color or my car. I am also working on a quilt as you go quilt. I have it about half done. It is amazing what a couple days off will do.
I’d really like to see these laminated fabrics — what potential!
These look fabulous – I love any sort of tote bags! I just finished a fabric bowl using clothesline and 2 1/2″ fabric strips.

My most recent sewing project was bunting for my son’s first birthday party. His theme was Angels baseball and my Mom had soem of Angel’s fabric on hand even! So it was team colors plus team fabric (although it was an old logo), and was very summery! Thanks for the opportunity.
I subscribe to the email newsletter. Thanks!

Fabulous Gift Idea. Wait, fabulous gift for me idea!

Hopefully you’ll soon see my published pattern featuring a lunch bag (with 2 ways to carry it), a placemat, a napkin, and a sandwich bag with an additional 2 free patterns for a utensil bag and a coaster – definitely decorating your lunch time! Be real cute to specialize making kits for your friends/family interests such as dogs, cats, a certain hat group, etc. Main thing, have fun with what you create!
I have been busy repurposing sweaters with too many holes ror the thrift shop to sell. with the wool ones, I loosly mend the holes than felt in my washer. I do 1 cycle with soap and 2 with plain water. I tie each sweater in a separate pillow case and put 3 sweaters in a load with a pair of old shoes to add to the adgitation. They come out with most holes self mended. I dry in the dryer on the lowest setting, then cut and sew them into tote bags. I use sleeves for handles. The ribbed cuff and bottom get used for outside pockets. I line them with “too small to use” fabric pieces adding inside pockets and a double bottom for strength. I have given many away to friends and people in need of a bag to replace worn out paper ones carried to the free meals program here.
I make the acrylic and cotton sweaters into everything from doll outfits to patchwork quilt squares for lap robes. I actually turned one into a jacket for a friend by adding contrasting pockets and trim from other sweaters.
This all started with me not wanting useable items thrown away. I would love a chance to work with this laminated cloth for a lunch bag. It sounds like an item with endless uses from baby bibs to a cover for an ice pack. It would be great to use to slip over the head rest on airplane rides. That laminated side would be great at keeping the head lice, etc., away from both children and adults.
whether I win some or not, I hope I have a chance to play with this fabric soon.
I am a lunch bagger and taking one to work would be sooo great. All the girls would want one and I would just have to make them one.
What a great idea – looking forward to getting my hands on this fabric. Currently working on several quilts including my first Hawaiian one

I’m binding a wall hanging that’s been a year in the making. It’s a McKenna Ryan pattern(s) — The quilting seemed to take forever, but the results were worth it.
I am making a quilt based on a baby blanket tutorial from Moda Bake Shop. However, instead of simply sewing the honeybun blocks together, I added white strips in between to make them stand out. I am using Soiree fabric from Moda. The quilt top is nearly done – yay!
Laminate me, baby!! This sounds so fun!!

Every year in January I go on a 5 day retreat with 22 of my closest quilting friends – we all make or take gifts for each other – a reward for busy lives as wives, mothers and hard workers – making some of these items will be perfect – why didn’t I think of this? I’ll be a winner even if I don’t get picked..
Those new laminates are beautiful! Wouldn’t that make lunch more fun?
I love this lunchbag (and the book)! I have not seen the laminated fabrics. How cool. I am currently working on a Christmas tree skirt. Since I seem to do more starting and not enough finishing, hopefully it will be ready for 2012!

The new fabrics and book look like such a cool project! Can’t wait to try them! Have granddaughters and a wonderful daughter and daughter-in-law who would really enjoy these! Today I am making an heirloom pillow for them with their monogram embroidered on it. I am also working on senior bibs and walker bags for my sister (& friends) in Assisted Living in Idaho (Christmas gifts). They picked some of my favorite designs, so you know they will go to a very good home! I bought oilcloth to make a mat to go under my dogs’ crates at agility class (to minimize the amount of dirt we haul home!), but found a woven mat at World Market that was already done. What will I do with 3 yards of oil cloth???
My latest project was binding and labels on several quilts I showed yesterday at the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show. Done is good! Kathy

The laminated fabrics look very interesting! I can see any one of them sewn into a large bag to carry other projects. I belong to a group that meets at a quilt shop(Binders, Borders and Squares) on Fridays. We are called the “Crazy Eights”. We work on any and all UFO’s we bring from home. A bag made from the laminated fabric would inspire us to complete even more projects.
