Super Hot-Drink Wrap Project

Baby, it’s cold out outside!  An excellent reason to enjoy a hot cup of coffee on the go.  We all try to be green and remember our reusable insulated cups…but we’re human and often quite groggy in the morning and therefore leave it behind.

So how about keeping a coffee cozy in the car to wrap around that to-go paper cup?  Now, I’m not talking about a cardboard cuff, you know…one of those 3″ wide dealies that barely cover your cup, not to mention keep your drink hot.  This season requires a “Super Wrap” to keep that coffee hot!!!  This puppy wraps way up your cup so you can rest assured that your beverage will remain at optimum drinking temperature…thanks to Insul-Fleece® Insulated Interfacing.

So that’s the function part…now it’s time to talk form.   Consider your Super Hot Drink Wrap like a fashion accessory and have fun with the exterior.  This one features TAP® Transfer Artist Paper used for the clip-art tree and Liquitex® Iridescent Medium over the top to add some wintery snowy sparkle.  Although it doesn’t really show in this photo, the shine is beautiful.  It’s not overboard gaudy, just enough to make it subtly magical.

  • Fabric for outside and inside
  • Insul-Fleece Insulated Interfacing
  • TAP Transfer Artist Paper
  • Liquitex Iridescent Medium
  • Fabric scrap for bird
  • Fusing for bird (or fabric glue)

Instructions:

Trace and cut 1 pattern shape each for the outside fabric, inside fabric, and the Insul-Fleece

Transfer your desired image to your outside fabric, following the directions on the TAP package.

Layer the pieces together in this order bottom to top: Insul-Fleece, front (facing up), inside (facing down)

Sew 1/4″ seam around all four sides, leaving a 2.5″ opening on one end.

Turn the cuff right side out through the opening.  Press.  Sew a 1/4″ seam around all four sides including the opening.

Sew on velcro to ends for attaching.  The fuzzy soft side of your velcro gets sewn onto the outside of cuff and the prickly strip of velcro is sewn to the inside, on the opposite end of the cuff.

Loved the pattern! Needed a few gifts for a girl group I am in. I plan to iron our logo on and put names on each one.
