Hi everyone!
I am the Design Manager at C&T Publishing and I have the absolute pleasure of working on our Stash Books titles. I haven’t blogged on our Stash Books blog yet and I have to admit, I’ve been feeling guilty about that. You see, I have been quite intimidated by the level of mastery that permeates the walls here at C&T, you can read all about that here if you really want to, but I’m glad to say that I think I’m past feeling that way now.

I just finished the book design for Block Party—The Modern Quilting Bee by Alissa Haight Carlton & Kristin Lejnieks, and let me tell you, I AM INSPIRED! Not only do I love the quilt designs in this book, but even more, I love the idea of the quilting bee. I am a social person that is motivated by commitments. While I’d love to say that a commitment to myself is enough, truth be told, sometimes it’s not. You know how it goes: You say you’re going to exercise 3 times a week, then you find yourself finding other things to do during that “exercise time.” But if you told your girlfriend that you’re going to meet her at the park to run around the lagoon, then you’re much more inclined to actually do it because you don’t want to be a weeny and cancel on her.
Back to the quilting bee idea…Our Production Team is comprised of some pretty creative peeps, many of whom have little to no experience sewing. And many of whom would actually like to make a quilt, but feel like I did: totally frozen at the idea of sewing something in the presence of our C&T Quilt-making Goddesses. So as I was laying out the pages of Block Party and read about how relatively easy it could be (One block a month?? Easy peasy!), I decided that we needed a bee here at C&T for all of us newbies and 14 others agreed! So as February creeps near, we’re approaching our first month of The Buzz.
I will be the first to go, that makes me the Queen Bee. I will distribute fabric that I cut into the appropriate strip sizes and block instructions to the Worker Bees. They will have one month to put my block together. At the end of February I will have 14 blocks to put towards completing a quilt!
I’m so so so excited about this! Each Queen Bee will do a blog post at the start of her month to introduce her block. Hopefully we’ll all be able to do a follow-up post with images of our finished quilts (there’s a little more of that “motivated by commitments” concept).
Ok! Off to go trim my fabric…stay tuned!
In the meantime, do any of you have any great bee experiences that you’d like to share?

I’m so excited to see what you guys come up with. I would love to be involved in something like that…I just don’t know that many people who like to quilt. But my sister and I are trying to do something like that for each other.
Can’t wait to see what you lovely Quilting Godesses come up with!
Oh! Sounds like so much fun! I’ve never been in a bee before but agree about the commitment point.
Hurray! Can’t wait to see all that you make!
Sounds like fun! Will there be a theme to the blocks?
Sounds divine. I am looking to Join a bee!
Angie- Each Queen Bee designs or finds a pattern for their own quilt, so it’s totally up to them!
Sounds fun!
Keep us posted!
Yippee! So excited to get started on your block. Fantastic idea!
