New Release! Liberty Love … and a Giveaway!

Liberty Love by Alexia Marcelle Abegg for Stash BooksLiberty Fabrics have a reputation. They are longed for, sought after, coveted, stashed, and saved for that ‘special’ project.  I speak from experience! When I heard the news that a book with the title Liberty Love was on the horizon – I knew my precious Liberties would finally find a home – and I was right!

Please join me in welcoming our latest Stash Books author, Alexia Marcelle Abegg, and her book, Liberty Love to our family.

We asked Alexia to share a little bit about the making of the book and the way that her family has helped throughout.

“I am so thrilled that I was able to have so much creative input into the final look and feel of my new book, Liberty Love.

I shot all of the styled photographs, including the cover, and also illustrated the book.
For each illustration I drew a sketch in pencil, scanned it, filled in color and simplified the image.

I really love to draw, and brainstorming the most effective communication of each step was like solving a little puzzle!
I had so much fun scouting locations, pulling props and styling these photos to show the projects in a day to day context.

In my creative world most things become a family affair, and my first book was no different. My parents have always encouraged my sisters and I to be creative and explore the arts, something that certainly helped steer me towards a career in a creative field.

My father is an artist and photographer, and almost everything I know about photography is because he taught me. I shot some of the photos at his art studio in Nashville. Here is one that didn’t end up getting used, but one I loved because it reflects my dad’s space.

The opportunity to have my family model for the book was amazing. Seeing their faces on the pages of my finished book makes me so happy. You can spot my husband Rob Bancroft, fabric designer and artist, and my parents, Jim and Michelle on the cover. My sister, Pierrette is on a couple of the inside pages, and I even wrangled our pups, Olive & Soda for a photo or two!

The cover shoot really was fun. We shot in our friend’s backyard, and a neighbor’s dog kept running over. We thought it might be cute if he ran into one of the pics so in this outtake you can see everyone whistling for him to come!

If I could transport you to the exact minute of the cover shot you would hear my friends Jude and Steve, parents of the baby on the cover, trying to keep her happy and hold her attention, see the late afternoon sun slowly ticking closer and closer to sunset, you would sip some lemonade, and feel the lovely southern humidity of late spring!

Just as the sun was setting we re-set and shot the quilt alone for the opening page of the project. We caught every second of that gorgeous sun, and when it set, we called it a day.

The process of shooting the book was so much fun, and such hard work, which makes the final product all the sweeter. I am so thankful I was able to contribute so much more than just the writing to my book.”

 Thank you Alexia!

SO FUN!! Liberty is a LOVE, for sure…and all the lovelies inside. Love how personal the book comes across. It shows that books become friends because somehow the personalities behind the book shine through. It’s good to know you have a receptive, eager-to-see-new-things audience, too. Good luck with the book’s publication!!

I have to admit – I thought Liberty fabrics were a little fussy when I first saw them. I’ve seen so many GORGEOUS quilts and projects made from them, however, that I’ve completely changed my mind. My daughter and I just picked out a new comforter for her room made out of a purple Liberty print (I’ll make a quilt for her next time)!

Liberty fabrics remind me of home, family and “handmade” craftiness. I can rember skirts and dresses but also curtains and soft furnishings made from Liberty fabrics. Some of the patterns are “busy” and nostalgic, others just plain romantic, others practical, some girlish…..but always baeutiful fabric!
