Introducing: Deploy That Fabric

I always get a chuckle out of those advertisements I see in some of the quilting magazines that show a piece of the curtains cut out, or their husband’s favorite shirt with a big hole in it. It often features two ladies, with one looking incredulous and the other shrugging her shoulders with a certain sense of justification. The implication… Read more.

Introducing Countdown Calendars

If patience is a virtue, my kids don’t have it. My two young boys are constantly anticipating exciting family events or holidays with regular inquiries as to how many days they have to wait until Thanksgiving, their birthdays, or our annual trip to the beach house. And who can blame them? The adult version may be crossing the days off

The Buzz

I just finished the book design for Block Party—The Modern Quilting Bee by Alissa Carlton & Kristin Lejnieks, and let me tell you, I AM INSPIRED! Not only do I love the quilt designs in this book, but even more, I love the idea of the quilting bee. I am a social person that is motivated by commitments. While I’d love to say that a commitment to myself is enough, truth be told, sometimes it’s not.

Introducing: Inspired to Sew by Bari J.

Inspired to Sew by Bari J.

It was over two years ago when I invited Bari Ackerman to bring a selection of her completed work to a lunch meeting to discuss the possibility of putting together a book proposal. She arrived with handfuls of her creations, a bunch of ideas, and a lot of questions.
I had been working for C&T Publishing… Read more. for three weeks. I

Introducing: Little Girls, Big Style

Little Girls, Big Style by Mary Abreu

Little Girls, Big Style by Mary Abreu No one can dispute that sewing children’s clothes—especially for girls—is a hot trend at the moment. I was seeing patterns crop up with more and more regularity over the past three or four Quilt Market trade shows. I was still on the fence as to whether we would catch the trend in book form until something fabulous happened: Mary Abreu sent in her book proposal!
Instead of a book filled with random patterns, Mary’s proposal for Little Girls, Big Style was all about building a wardrobe on just four straightforward basics: A bodice, a top, a pair of trousers and a skirt. Really. Just four basic patterns and the rest is all variations and embellishments that encourage you to make endless iterations of the basics. What could be simpler than that?!
