The Buzz Block #5: Sweet Munchies

sweet munchies

For June, I was the lucky “leader” of our block of the month club, The Buzz… Read more. …meaning it’s my turn to choose a book, a pattern from a book, fabric that I like and get it all prepared and passed out. This may sound easy to some; however, I am not the most decisive person, especially when there’s so many

The Buzz Block #4: Pretty in Pink and Green

Block

Our fourth Buzz… Read more. block started in the beginning of May, with warmer weather, green grass and vibrant spring flowers popping up all around us. Since I had never touched a sewing machine before in my life, I was completely intimidated to sew (especially someone else’s block), but could hardly contain myself at the thought of having my very own quilt!

Introducing: Block Party—The Modern Quilting Bee

Block Party

Do you belong to a quilting bee?  How about a virtual bee? I’m going to hazard a guess that if I had asked that question 18 months ago when Alissa Haight Carlton and Kristen Lejnieks… Read more. first shared their book proposal with me, I would have received some strange and puzzled (perhaps even bordering on shocked) looks. Do they really still

The Buzz Block #2: Yellows & Greys

Buzz_Quilt_3

Our second Buzz block started in early March, which for us was full of rainy days sprinkled with a few blinks of Spring sunshine. To celebrate the peekaboo weather and my love of changing seasons, I decided to alter one of my favorite quilts in City Quilts by Cherri House. The clean graphic pattern and inventive color play in City Tracks seemed perfect: easy enough to construct, but full of opportunities! Inspired by the wet weather and early Spring flowers, I played with greys and yellows until I came up with just the sort of dappled look I was going for.

The Buzz

TheBuzz_logo_small

I just finished the book design for Block Party—The Modern Quilting Bee by Alissa Carlton & Kristin Lejnieks, and let me tell you, I AM INSPIRED! Not only do I love the quilt designs in this book, but even more, I love the idea of the quilting bee. I am a social person that is motivated by commitments. While I’d love to say that a commitment to myself is enough, truth be told, sometimes it’s not.
